Gary Marcus profoundly loves AI. This is, perhaps, the reason why he critiques it so severely—because he doesn’t want the technology he loves to fall short of its potential.
From Davos to the U.S Senate and kind of everywhere in between, he has worked tirelessly since the release of ChatGPT to get the field of AI to course correct and get back on the right track. In his recent book "Taming Silicon Valley", he proposes a roadmap for doing so.
Today, he joined Matteo Carraba, Benjamin Wittes and me to chat about the limits of generative AI and about neuro-symbolic AI, a potential path forward to get AI to actually fulfill its promises.
As a professor emeritus of neuropsychology, a computer scientist and a tech entrepreneur, he brings a truly unique perspective to the debate.
